What is the IRS mileage rate for 2026?

76 cents a mile for business use from July 1 to December 31, 2026 (72.5 cents from January 1 to June 30). It covers gas, wear, insurance and depreciation, but not tolls or parking. We use it as a full-cost benchmark; the IRS does not allow a deduction for ordinary commuting.

Is Tri-Rail parking free?

At most stations, yes. Boynton Beach, Fort Lauderdale Airport/Dania Beach, Pompano Beach, Miami Airport and the Lake Worth Beach auxiliary lot are pay-to-park, but registered riders get 12 hours a day free. 24-hour parking is not allowed (SFRTA Tariff Policy §8.15).

How is this calculated?

Driving at the IRS rate = miles × 2 × 76¢ + tolls + parking. Gas only = miles × 2 ÷ MPG × gas price + tolls + parking. Tri-Rail = the round-trip fare × workdays, capped at the $121 monthly pass. Brightline = 2 rides a workday at the per-ride price of the 40-ride SMART pass; your real cost depends on which passes you buy and how long they last. Driving miles are approximate station-to-station routes from OpenStreetMap (OSRM). Year = month × 12.
